Faith in the Unity of GOD is the most fundamental and the most basic teachings of the Holy prophet Mohammad (PBUH). This is expressed in the first Kalima (there is no deity but ALLAH). It is the route of all the teachings of Islam, Muslims are essentially required to offer five times formal prayer (salat) daily and in each prayer they repeatedly say before their GOD:
"Thee alone do we worship and Thee alone do we ask for help, And we did raise among every people a Messenger to preach to worship ALLAH ( GOD almighty alone ) and shun the evil one." ( AL-Nihal )
The meaning of the Kalima ( La ilaha illallah ) shall be very helpful in understanding the true impact of the ideology of Tawheed that is oneness of GOD. Maulana Maudidi explains the Kalima as follows:
"In the Arabic language the world ilah means one who is worshiped, i.e., a being which on account of its greatness and power be considered worthy to be worshiped, to be bowed to in humility and submission. Anything or any being possessing power too great to be comprehended by man is also called ilah, the conception of ilah also includes the possession of infinite power, power that may astonish other. It also conveys the sense that others are dependent upon ilah and that he is not dependent upon any one else. The word ilah also carries a sense of concealment and mystery, that is, ilah would be a being unseen and impereceptible. The khuda in Persian, deva in hindi, and god in english bear, more or less similar meanings and significance. Other languages of the world
also contain words with a like sense."
Tawheed- The Bed-Rock of Islam :
Tawheed is a revolutionary concept and constitutes the essence of the teachings of Islam. It means that there is only One Supreme Lord of the universe. He is Omnipotent, Omnipresent and the Sustainer of the world and of mankind.
How can one observe the inexhaustible creativity of nature, its purposefulness, its preservation of that which is morally useful and destruction of that which is socially injurious, and yet fail to draw the conclusion that behind nature there is an All-pervading Mind of whose incessant creative activity the process of nature are but an outward manifestation ? The stars scattered through the al-most infinite space, the vast panorama of nature with its charm and beauty the planned waxing and waning of the mood, the astonishing harmony of seasons all point towards one fact there is a GOD, the Creator, the Governor, We witnessed a superb, flawless plan in the universe, can it be without a planner? We see great enchanting beauty and harmony in its working, can it be without a Creator ? We observe wonderful design in nature, can it be without a Designer? We feel a lofty purpose in physical and human existence can it be without a will working behind it ? We find that the universe is like a superbly written fascinating novel, can it be without an Author ? Truly, ALLAH said:
"O mankind, worship your Lord, who created you and those before you, so that you may word off evil. Who has appointed the earth a resting lace for you, the sky a canopy ? and who causes water to pour down from the heaven, thereby producing fruits as food for you ? So do not setup rivals to ALLAH, when you know better."
It is not merely a metaphysical concept, It is a dynamic be-lief and a revolutionary doctrine. It means that all men are the creature of one GOD, they are all equal. Discrimination based on colour, class, race or territory is unfounded and illusory. It is a remnant of the days of ignorance which chained men done to servitude. Humanity is on single family of God and there can be no sanction for those barriers, Men are one and not bourgeois or proletarian, White or black, Aryan or non-Aryan, Westerner or Easterner, Islam gives a revolutionary concept to the unity of mankind. The prophet (PBUH) came to unite humanity on the word of God and made the dead live again, ALLAH says:
"Hold tight to the rope of GOD, altogether and never let go again remember God's gifts and blessings onto you all when you were enemies, remember how He forget your hearts together in love, and by His grace, you became brethren."
"O mankind, worship your Lord, who created you and those before you, so that you may word off evil.
