Why blend Religion and Science

Islam and Science
Why blend Religion and Science

In view of the later post of this Label Human knowledge can be divided into two categories:
  1. Knowledge communicated by God to man through holy Prophets, which deals with man in articular and the universe in general - referred to as RELIGION.
  2. Knowledge acquired by man through his own inquiry, observation and experimental efforts which deals with the whole universe including himself - referred to as SCIENCE.
Verses of the Quran cited below prove that human knowledge, whether religious or scientific, directly or indirectly owes its origin to God and is an insignificant part of divine Knowledge. Observation, memory, intelligence, expression, in short all human faculties are gifts of God to man and no man and no human being could have acquired even a speck from Divine knowledge, without these faculties and without God's will, as evident from the following verses of the Quran:
"He (ALLAH) knows what is before them and what is behind them, and they cannot comprehend anything out of His knowledge except that which He pleases ."(Surah AL-BAQRAH v.255)
"And none can inform you like the One who is aware."(Surah AL-FAATAR v.4)
"Who (ALLAH) thaught (to write) with the pen, taught men what he knew not."(Surah AL-ALQ v.4-5)
An inquiry into the aims and effects of these two great institutions of religion and science, reveals that both aim at human welfare, former concentrating on spiritual comforts and the latter on material, but in effect, both are major causes of human disasters. The fact that institutions having such a noble aim are in effect so destructive is not so surprising when we consider the causes. In the field of religion man neither believes in nor obeys the constitution of God and in the field of science he misuses knowledge, which again is due to lack of faith in religion. This is an age of science and man has developed so intense a faith in science that he retains what science approves and discards what science disproves  The science conscious world
demands an approval of religion by science or at-least an interpretation of religion in the language of science. It forgets that religion, Islam being its final form, is a code of conduct and science is an accumulation of observational, experimental and inferential knowledge of the universe acquired by man. The main themes of Islam and science are diverse and apparently unconnected.
Scientific method of testing cannot be applied to Islam except the tool of experimentation i.e., the Islamic way of life can be experimented and the result confirmed.
Nevertheless, this demand of the science conscious world of interpreting religion in the language of science can be partly fulfilled through the interpretation in the language of science, of the verses of the Quran which deal with topics falling in the jurisdiction of science. This would not only give the modern Muslim an opportunity to realize the ultramodern nature and truth of the Quran the constitution of Islam, but also to test haw far various theories of science, having a mention in the Quran are close to the truth.
Belied in the truth of verses of the Quran dealing with topics of science, will not only strengthen his faith but will also give him confidence to follow the instructional part of the Quran. This would lead to spiritual comfort and utilizing achievements of science, no longer considering them to be the work of the devil, would make his material existence comfortable. Is peace something other than spiritual and material comfort ?
Quran and science directly or indirectly having originated from God, should not disagree on topics common to both. Lack of agreement would just mean that our present state of knowledge and understanding is not sufficient to grasp certain aspects of the Quran and the universe and future knowledge might clear the controversy.
It is quite possible that God revealed certain facts and laws of nature through the Quran and the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and bestowed on man the priceless gift of generation, discovering these facts and laws through his own effort and acquiring scientific knowledge, provide the proof of the truth of Quran and thereby develop a stronger faith in God and obey his orders.
The present work interpreting verses of the Quran falling in the domain of science, in the language of science with an urge to invite Muslims to the path of God is by no means against the spirit of Islam. In fact it is in obedience to the command of God. Who, prescribing the manner in which people are to be invited to the right way, the path of God says:
"Invite to the way of your Fosterer with wisdom and good admonition and dispute with them in the best manner.."(Surah AL-NAHAL v.125)
"It is a blessed book We have sent down to you that they may reflect over its signs and that men of understanding maybe mindful."(Surah Dawad v.29)
"In the certain of the skies (heavenly bodies) and the earth and the alternation of the night and the day, certainly there are signs for men of understanding. Who remember ALLAH, standing and sitting and lying on their sides and reflect on the creation of the skies and earth. "O our Fosterer ! you have not created this in vain you are Glorified (above all) so save us from punishment of fire."
People who are capable of reflecting on the creation of the skies and the earth are scientists and their tools are knowledge of wisdom. It is therefore obvious from the above verses of the Quran that people, at-least in the present age , should be invited to the path of God making full use if scientific knowledge and wisdom"
